Are you 10-12 years old? Become a participant of the project for schoolchildren “When parents were children”

We invite you to create your own project based on an interview with your parents about how they learned and explored the city on their own at the age of 10-12. Each story-memory can be supplemented with photos, video or audio recordings.

The selected stories will become part of the first exhibition of the City Museum “Hero’s Journey: The Last Week of Summer” in the dungeons of Lviv City Hall. The project is supported by the Lviv City Council as part of the Focus on Culture program.

What do you need to do?

  1. tell your parents about the project, ask them if they would be interested in sharing their childhood memories with the museum
  2. choose one of the proposed topics (or all three)
  3. have a conversation with your parents and record (on your phone in audio or video format, text) their memories, add their childhood photos in the city, take pictures of objects that your parents will find at home
  4. sign a permission to use the collected stories for the exhibition (Annex 2)
  5. prepare a PowerPoint presentation based on the story or draw it up as a text document with illustrations, or attach the collected photos, videos and audio files to an email
  6. send the collected materials by e-mail to: mumilviv@gmail.com

What do we suggest to use?

  • text, audio or video responses from the student’s parents;
  • scanned or re-photographed photos from their parents’ childhood (between the ages of 10 and 12), namely summer vacations in the city;
  • photographs of childhood objects: collectibles, games and fun in the yard, treasures and trophies from travels, friends’ diaries, children’s correspondence, essays on “how I spent my summer,” etc;
  • maps with the routes of parents’ independent walks to parks and other places of independent travel in search of adventures;
  • diagrams and drawings of building “shacks”, arranging yards, game rules, and other illustrations for stories.

Deadline for participation: October 31, 2020.

Organizer: The City Museum, with the support of the Focus on Culture program.
